The Church of St. Paul the Apostle, Lincoln Center in NYC, to Present “Arcanum Angelorum” (“Mystery Of The Angels”) Exhibit by American Artist Guillermo Esparza with Live Performance by Composer Maria Andriasova Esparza

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2012

An exhibit of sacred art – “Arcanum Angelorum” (Mystery of the Angels) – with works by Guillermo Esparza, award-winning, internationally recognized American iconographer, painter, and sculptor, will be displayed in The Church of St. Paul The Apostle, Lincoln Center in New York City, Rev. Gilbert Martinez, CSP, Pastor. The opening reception is on Thursday, May 10th from 7 to 9 pm, with live performance by composer Maria Andriasova Esparza at the piano, and the show runs through June 7, 2012. The exhibit is presented by Openings NY, a project of the Paulist Fathers established by Rev. Frank Sabatte, CSP, and will feature Esparzas most recent monumental mural painting of the Many-Eyed (Red) Seraph, a part of the triptych of mural of The Pantokrator and accompanying Green and Red Seraphim, as well as podlennik of the mural of The Pantokrator with tetramorphs of the Evangelists and Archangels Gabriel and Michael. It runs in conjunction with Guillermo Esparzas on-going exhibit at The Basilica of St. Patricks Old Cathedral, where he is the artist-in-residence, and it runs through 2016 in celebrations of the Cathedrals 200-year anniversary. Composer Maria Andriasova Esparza will be making live appearance performing her award-winning score to a documentary film Guillermo Esparza, An American Iconographer, an original production by Los Angeles film maker Veronica Aberham for London-based Studio International.

According to early Christian history, the tradition of iconography was established approximately 1,000 years before the Renaissance. It is based on golden-mean proportions and related geometry, Byzantine modules, exact anatomy, inverse perspective, and multi-perspective philosophy. In my works, I strive to preserve the traditions of the medieval painters. What inspires me is light penetrating the transparent colors of egg tempera, reflecting back from the gesso ground. In sculpture, it is the super emanating light coming from white marble, reflecting the heart of the shellfish: fiat lux. Guillermo Esparza.

New Book Offers Advice for Small Churches

Barre, VT (PRWEB) April 18, 2012

Dr. Terry Dorsett has worked with one of Americas largest congregations and has also been the pastor of small churches in Vermont, what he refers to as the least-churched state in America. In the new book Mission Possible: Reaching the Next Generation through the Small Church (published by CrossBooks), he shares his thoughts on how to reach the next generation of worshippers.

Many small churches want to reach the next generation but do not know how, explains Dorsett. They see larger churches doing big events and hiring multiple staff members and they know they cannot do that. But they want to do something.

Mission Possible gives small churches practical and easy-to-use ideas that will help them reach the next generation regardless of their size or budget.

Dorsett has discovered, through both personal experience and extensive research, easy-to-use methods and ideas that any church can put into practice. He believes there is nothing a larger church can do that a smaller church is unable to accomplish.

What is important is that every church, regardless of size, fulfills the call God has for them in the community where God has placed them.

About the Author

Dr. Terry Dorsett holds a masters degree in religious education from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2004 he began Faith Community Church in Barre, Vermont, which is widely known for reaching young adults. He is the author of three previous books and a frequent contributor to Baptist Press.

New Novel Exemplifies Value of Good Conduct, Morals

CARNATION, Wash. (PRWEB) April 03, 2012

In D. L. Waterhouses new novel The Sequel to Alfred Creek (published by CrossBooks), protagonist Lou Worley exemplifies much of what Waterhouse considers best in standards of character and virtue, and through Lous example other characters are changed.

Todays society is in great need of role models for young people, Waterhouse says. Role models that provide an example of citizenry, community service and responsibility. Lou Worley represents all of these things and more.

Through his interactions with the other characters Calvin Trent, a game warden; William Shearer, a pastor and Lous best friend; Beltray Gibbons, a young man who turns away from crime through Lous example; and Gino Pastelli, a crime boss who finds the error of his ways Lou Worley is able to bring about the changes in those characters that Waterhouse feels necessary in everyday life. This excerpt, as a mother reunites with her son, illustrates that:

For the next two hours, Pam, Katie, and I sat in a circle in witness to their moment. The overwhelming, maternal love for her son, dormant in Loraine for over twenty-eight years, could no longer be hidden. She wondered year after year what he looked like. How tall was he? Was he right-handed or left-handed? Now she no longer had to wonder. Carefully, she memorized every feature; the shape of his eyes, and the creases around his mouth from his smile. Oblivious to his scars, Loraine beamed with pride. Every feature she saw in him was a mirror of herself. Beltray saw himself in her as well. Th e need he felt to connect with his roots had lain buried for too long, like a gut-ache that had lasted a lifetime. Embraced in his mothers arms, he suddenly belonged; he had found his family.

Waterhouse has high hopes for his readers. I would like some young person to read my book and realize the power that they have over their own destiny by virtue of the decisions they will make every day of their lives, he says. I would like them to consider carefully the ramifications of each decision, action and behavior and its effects upon everyone else.

About the Author

D. L. Waterhouse has been a truck driver for over 40 years. A longtime Christian and private pilot, he relies on his love for God, his family, and flying when writing. He lives in Carnation, Washington, with his wife, Florence.
